You’ve likely been asked at some point, “What’s your story?” You might reflect on your childhood, career, and family to share nuggets of wisdom and life-changing events. Everyone has a story, including the guests who come to New Hope Ministries looking for help. Honestly, many of the stories we hear from folks include despair, helplessness, and uncertainty. But as we lovingly help our guests fill their shopping carts with nutritious food for their families, pay a past-due rent bill, and learn a new life skill, those stories turn into new chapters beaming with hope, transformation, and thanks.
Psalm 107 tells stories, too, of people who experienced hunger, homelessness, and distress. And when they cried out to the Lord for help, they received deliverance, redemption, and unfailing love from the Lord, time and again (v. 4-9). In these stories, and in our stories, people give thanks too. They received help in a time of need.
You are a crucial part of New Hope’s story! As you consider how you will spend your Thanksgiving, remember that you can feed the hungry and love your neighbors with a gift to New Hope. We need your help now as we see the continuing increased cost of food, utilities, and housing burden more and more people in our community. Without you, your neighbors face a world of challenges.
Jesus shared these words while eating at the home of a Pharisee, “But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous” (Luke 14:13-14).
Please give a generous gift today that will provide a Thanksgiving banquet for the poor and needy in your community. Your support will keep our pantry shelves stocked and people safely housed into the coming winter months.
